1) The 1st month of the year

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the wonderful world of new beginnings. Here we are again with the resolutions and reflections. How did the last year speed by, and what was I doing when it did? Whatever the how's or the what's, it is gone. It didn't wait for any of us. The gratitude lies in our ability to realize that we are still "above ground" and breathing. Therefore, the creative spark remains with us and encourages us to choose again. January is named after the Roman god Janus who rules over entrances and doorways and doors. The door closes on the past and opens to the future. The word janitor comes from the Roman god Janus. (A bit of trivia here).

You probably should feel a bit lethargic about now. The last two months of last year bleed over into the New Year and it takes about two months to get our engines going. By March, they should be in full speed. Be patient with yourself as you sort through the month of January. Even though it is a month of new beginnings, it has the quality of a new born in that it requires much sleep. It is still in the hibernation period. This is an excellent month to lay the ground work for what you would like to accomplish over the next year - and I don't mean going on a diet. Give yourself the time to sift through your last year and see what you accomplished. You are embarking on a journey of 12 months, prepare for it, don't just lurch yourself into the trip. We probably prepare better for airline travel than we do for a 12 month journey. Be patient and be strategic.

The number one month is the time for new beginnings, progress, creative ideas, courage, strong will and an exploring attitude. Be individual in your thinking this month. Be open to new ideas and begin making the plans for the necessary action. Things begun in a one month are favored even though you may not see the rewards for some later time in the year. Remember too, that late in January we begin an astrological transit called Mercury Retrograde. That will last until about February 19th. It is best to initiate some new ideas before the 28th of the month. I cannot say this strongly enough. New born babies wake up quite often and demand attention. Your ideas are now waking up this month so tend to them and pay attention to the theme that keeps coming on strong.

2) View From the Freeway

2008 is a "One" year in Numerology. So this month of January gives a double whammy of new beginnings, a "one" month in a "one" year. It is definitely important to all of us. Watch for subtle new beginnings in your own life and in the world communities. The new beginnings have a tendency to stay around quite awhile when initiated at this time.

We all have come out of a "nine" year, 2007. There were many endings last year. You will see some of this over the next year. An example of this is the enormous expansion of the salaries of sports stars over the last 12 years. Over the next several years, the acceptance of this past behavior will dissipate. Another ending is the extreme religious viewpoint. This will not be immediate but the end has begun and the expansion of these worldwide dogmas and fanatics is ceasing. This is across the board in all religions.

What will be increasing is a heavier hand of government and financial institutions. I said over a year ago that banking institutions would tighten up their regulations and they have. Expect the same from government. That includes local, state and Federal.

Expect the grain markets of the world to be restricted for the next two years (until about fall of 2009). This may require you to make some changes in your eating patterns and a higher cost of foods. We are already seeing farmland being turned into corn; growing it for fuel rather than food. It could influence us to eat less snack chips, crackers etc. We actually may become healthier as we watch what we buy.

Expect some honest to goodness improvements in health care. I won't expect much new legislation of any consequence until after the November election but I would look for improvements in this area in 2009. Speaking of the election in 2008, it is not nearly as important as the election of 2012. This year's election is going to be a little more strange than normal and may set the stage for the important election for the US in 2012.

The United States has a transit affecting its birth chart. This transit of Pluto in Capricorn will begin the end of January and last about 15 years. We will finally come back to the principles and promises of when this country was founded in 1776. It is the first time this transit has visited this country since the time of its birth. It will be a gradual change, a revelation of the consolidation of government power and corporate power and an awareness by the population of what is now most important to its inhabitants. It will have a revolutionary quality to it and will begin to awaken a complacent population.

Whatever you do during this New Year, remember to stop scaring yourself. The world is not coming to an end now or in 2012. We are in that wonderful new Renaissance that occurs every 500 years. As each one of these cycles occurs, we as humans go further and further away from a "slave" labor, or "serfdom" type of existence. Areas not touched in the last Renaissance are being visited in this one. Unfortunately, as robots replace human labor (they are and will increase), humans will wonder what to do for "work". (Read Jeremy Rifkin's "The End of Work").

Embrace your new opportunities, embrace your loved ones, embrace your dreams, embrace your possibilities and embrace patience. You carry the spark of the Divine within you. You are the torch bearer who lights the way. Never forget that you are made of stars and that your time here is brief. You may be having a challenging day or life but you are free in your mind to think anew.

Happy New Year, make wonderful memories for your future.

Until next month,

Keep trusting yourself,

— Gail
