MONTHLY MEMO -- FEBRUARY 2009

  1. Meaning of the Number Two, the 2nd month of the year.
  2. View from the Freeway

In Numerology the number two is seen as the intermediary, the go-between, the arbitrator and a feminine energy. In actuality, the numbers one and two are seen as the "parents" of numbers in that when they mate, they give birth to all other numbers.

"In the Two we experience the very essence of number more intensely than in other numbers, that essence being to bind many together into one, to equate plurality and unity. Our mind divides the world into heaven and earth, day and night, light and darkness, right and left, man and woman, I and you - and the more strongly we sense the separation between these poles, whatever they may be, the more powerfully do we also sense their unity" — Karl Menninger (1893-1990), American psychiatrist)

The 2nd month will teach us patience, diplomacy, tact, unity from uniting two together, the value of partnerships and the birth of the "other". We are learning this month how to think of the effects of our behavior on the "other". Nothing exists in itself. There is a constant, ongoing "urge to merge". Even the static cling experienced from taking laundry out of the dryer and common household plastic wrap illustrates the urge of many (in this case electrons) to return to one. In our case, our own personal journey of returning to the one silently directs our lives. No matter how we develop our individual traits, habits and persona, we all are moving towards "the merge".

How do we best respond to the energy of the 2nd month? We can learn to work with the energy of this number. During the month of February practice patience and view the different perspectives of other individuals. Step back and observe. Think before you speak. Calm yourself. Be aware of the effects of your behavior on others. Do not force your point of view; instead practice the art of persuasion. In speaking of the number two, the philosopher and mathematician Heraclitus said "Couples are wholes and not wholes, what agrees disagrees, the concordant is discordant. From all things one and from one all things." American therapists have created an enormous industry in this country assisting us in understanding the nuances of this important principle as it relates to our closest relationships. The bottom line is the union to create something more than the one. Our worlds are in this constant state of union and creation.

Ramakrishna, the great Indian sage, taught that "everyone will attain God-consciousness and be liberated. Some receive their meal early in the morning, others at noon, still others not until evening. But none will go hungry. Without any exception, all living beings will eventually know their own true nature to be timeless awareness."

View from the Freeway

Hello America and how are you? Not feeling well? Perhaps you need to recover and restore yourself to your natural state of good health.

Recovery can take awhile. I have been saying this regularly for the last year or two, plan on a recovery period of 15 years. The most acute stage of the illness has begun and the most important thing to remember when we are really ill is that we will get better and after that will stay better for a long time. In the meantime, how do we treat the patient? Your Mother told you long ago how to do that - common sense. Thomas Paine even wrote about the cure during the American Revolution. We must start using common sense. If it talks like a duck, sounds like a duck and looks like a duck, do you think it could be a duck? My estimate is that the next 3 years, through 2012 are the roughest times. That does not mean it is over in 2013.

Think really seriously about making supportive changes now. Get out of denial. Get very active in overseeing your local government activities. It is no longer okay to believe everything you hear. Do not be so tired or scared that you become as a deer in the headlights. Join together with other folks who are concerned about how and what is happening in various areas of our society. It is a fabulous opportunity to get involved. The trend is citizen activism. It is major trend and will grow all through this period.

For the past 30 years, we have allowed others to become our authorities. This shows up in the medical profession where we abdicate our own authority, in the financial sector where we give our money to advisors, believe their analysis and pay their fees and in the public sector where we allow elected officials to be subsidized by unions and private monies and use their public trust without public transparency. Have we been asleep or just lazy? Maybe both! Well the alarm clock has gone off and we are definitely in a feet on the floor posture. We are about to re-parent ourselves and our government while at the same time canceling the proxy voting. The addiction to more is better is about to be detoxed.

Will the "bailout" work? Do they know? Remember you are watching a-best-guess solution. Some parts of it will help but since it is such a long term issue, there will be areas that will only heal over the long term. Certainly we are fortunate to have President Obama in office but it is important to monitor his decisions and where he needs to be called on the carpet, call him. Pay particular attention to Saturday morning news. This is usually the opposite of what people do. Most people don't read the news on Saturday so unpopular news is released late Friday afternoon or evening counting that people will let it pass from sight by Monday. For example, notice this morning, Saturday, January 31st, the exposure of former Senator Tom Dashchle for not paying large sums of income taxes over a three year period. He is being proposed as the Secretary of Health and will need to come before a committee for approval. As an average citizen might ask, how is it that the Secretary of the Treasury and now the proposed Secretary of Health only paid back taxes after being nominated for their posts? Can these people be that busy or have such inept accountants, or is it something else? Do you think they thought they could get away with it? If so, why is that okay?

I bring up this point to demonstrate how complacency on our parts has created an atmosphere of cavalier behavior on the parts of our politicians, financial structures and various others segments of our society.

We are returning to the same transit that occurred during the American Revolution. This is another revolutionary period in the making. The weapons this time will be exposure, citizen activism, website monitoring, boycotting and common sense. Start questioning what you are being told--get smart, get educated and get off the couch.

For retirees who have lost a large portion of your portfolio, go back to work if necessary. The Soul never came here to retire. Retirees bought into an artificial, man-made program called retirement. It didn't work. We were always here to grow, express and create until we leave. Yes, we can enjoy our lives, but we are creators and we create or we die. So, as they said in the film "Shawshank Redemption", "you either get busy living, or you get busy dieing." Nowhere did the Soul commit to worrying about its' portfolio, its' golf game, the early-bird dinners at its' local food chain or bus trips to gambling casinos. Organize with your friends and come up with solutions as to how you can create more and live more abundantly. Stop trying to make money! You do not buy a printing press, paper, ink and put it in your basement to print up a bunch of the stuff. You create abundance, including money, good health, good friends and good memories. You go to school and learn more information, new contacts, new technology and you stay relevant. You set goals and increase them. You build slowly so it can last and you stop talking abut negative things in your life - especially about Social Security and your health.

All of us must now know that we are in this together and that is good. We can exhale and say it is okay not to buy something because it is not appropriate for us at this time. The guilt can be lifted. People nod their heads in agreement and look for solutions. Well-to-do individuals shop at the 99 cent stores because it makes sense.

This important airplane crash that occurred recently in New York harbor was a wonderful event for us to watch. It was really an example of how we can behave in the face of dire consequences. Everyone was saved because level heads prevailed, people united to help one another, there was expertise available at just the right moment and divine providence allowed it to float just long enough for the rescue. This event is a metaphor for us. We must remain level headed, stay calm, use common sense and think in terms of the whole. Each person can help her/himself.

Remember, I will be presenting a workshop on Saturday, February 21st, in Laguna Hills, CA. on the present times and what you can do to help yourself as you grow through them. There are actually some industries that are doing very well during this period. I caution you to know how you can access your money if you need it in a hurry. Make sure it is well protected in a good bank or credit union. Do not risk principal. Stop trying to get rich quickly to make up for what you have lost. Do not believe all the stuff that is out there. I would love to have a nickel for every advertisement and promotion to make money learning how to do short sales in real estate or become a private lender or buy foreclosed properties. In light of the uncertain markets both domestically and globally be very conservative and preserve principal. There will be some government programs coming out in the next month and I will go over some of these at the workshop.

You can register to attend on my website www.gailminogue.com . I priced it very reasonably for our life and times. Personally, I am relieved that America is cleaning up its act. We are so unique and are so important to the world's progress, that we must become more enlightened and more globally aware.

The Chinese philosopher, Chuang Tzu, who lived about 200 hundred years after the author of the TaoTe Ching, wrote :

"In ancient times, people lived holistic lives. They didn't overemphasize the intellect, but integrated mind, body and spirit in all things. ...If you want to stop being confused, then emulate these ancient folk: join your body, mind and spirit in all you do.

Choose food, clothing and shelter that accords with nature.
Rely on your own body for transportation.
Allow your work and your recreation to be one and the same.
Do exercise that develops your whole being and not just your body.
Serve others and cultivate yourself simultaneously.
Understand that true growth comes from meeting and solving the problems of life in a way that is harmonizing to your self and to others.

"If you can follow these simple old ways, you will be continually renewed."

Until next month,

Keep trusting yourself,

— Gail
