September 2007
Dear Friends,

1)The number 9th month of the year

Dear Friend,
I am writing September's memo today, August 28th, an eclipsed full moon day. Whatever the repercussion of a full moon eclipse may be, I trust it will be kindly to us all. I just noticed an article today regarding the fact that there are more cat and dog injuries on a full moon day. What might that do to humans as we are so affected by the moon and its pull on all own body fluids? No wonder the emergency rooms increase their patient number on the monthly full moon. It is always a good idea to spot the full moon date each month, note it in your calendar book and be governed accordingly. It does affect the emotions so pace yourself carefully the day before, during and the day after the actual date. Incidentally, it is quite well known that our early farmers and farmers in the know today, plant crops by the light of the new moon for best growth.
As we roll into September and end the summer vacations, we feel that there is an ending upon us. This month is the 9th month of the year and that number is the final number of numbers 1 through 9. You should feel like the summer is over, the big growing season is winding down, the days are shorter and we prepare to go inside both mentally and physically. School resumes and the summer shorts get put away. Of course, here in Southern California we are in the hottest part of the year. The stores, of course, are selling sweaters and wool clothing. I wonder who buys it.
The affect is to get us to think completion, cleaning up, finishing up what we started at the beginning of the year. The rest of this year, October through December is really the ending performance for the year. Look to this month as your opportunity to finally see the way to complete what you began.

The big news for September is that the planet Saturn changes signs from Leo, where it has been since July of 2005, to the sign of Virgo. This is a major change for us all. It will be affecting all of us until 2010. I mentioned a little of this last month when I spoke of changes to our health contracts, our food supplies and our tendency to look into the details more.
There are so many interesting transits affecting us that but this one in particular is very serious. We are all going to have to take better care of our health and the health products we consume. I would expect more unusual challenges in these areas. So much of what we do with our bodies is rather hit-and-miss. We skip a meal or eat poorly and then load up on vitamins to make up the difference. We believe the hype of pharmaceutical and supplement ads and deceive ourselves into thinking that we are practicing good health. During the next 2+ years we will be shown some pretty interesting truths about many of the myths we have bought into. Mother Nature cannot be fooled and that goes for our bodies. Simplicity, balanced diet, balanced lives and less choice will help us to stay well and stay alive longer.
Speaking of choices, I recently read an interesting article on "choice". It was in a magazine entitled "Spirituality & Health". The article was entitled "Can You Say No to Too Many Choices?" by Barry Schwartz. He states that "increased choice results in decreased satisfaction. ...studies show that plentiful choice increases the chances that people will regret their decisions because of all the alternatives passed up. People with high sensitivity to regret are less happy, less satisfied with life, less optimistic and more depressed that those with low sensitivity... ...Choice increases the sense of missed opportunities... Losses hurt more than gains make us feel good. Fearing the loss produced by the wrong vacation (for example), we don't take a vacation at all."
Schwartz suggests the following:
"Decide to restrict your options when the decision is not crucial. For example, make it a rule to visit no more than two stores when shopping for clothing.
Learn to accept "good enough"
Settle for choice that meets your core requirements rather than searching for the elusive best. Then stop thinking about it.
Don't worry about what you are missing.
Consciously limit how much you ponder the seemingly attractive features of options you reject. Teach yourself to focus on the positive aspects of your selection.
Control expectations.
"Don't expect too much, and you won't be disappointed" ...is sensible advice if you want to be more satisfied with life."
As we enter this 9th month of the year, you will face many choices in a moment by moment basis. The more you can understand the previous suggestions, the more at peace you can be with your day to day life. A dear Arab friend of mine once told me "a man who has too many choices is lost". I believe this to be true.
Enjoy the day and pay attention to the details.
Until next month,
Keep trusting yourself,
Gail
