MONTHLY MEMO, JANUARY 2009
The No. One Month of the Year
People usually begin the first month of the year with all good intentions of a fresh start. We want to begin anew and move on from last year's experience. Not so fast.
January is the sleeper month. The world is still in recovery from the events of 2008 and really won't be fully operational until about March. One of the great results of this month is the completion of the previous year. It really is over and we really can look forward. As Mary Queen of Scots said in the 1500's, "In my end is my beginning."
The No. 1 is represented by the circle. We have come round again and we learn to spiral up in our onward push to higher awareness. Ancient mathematical philosophers knew that the circle was the source of all shapes. If you give a child a crayon, they will inevitably draw a circle. We are, as in all things in nature, trying to "round things out".
We have come back to a starting point. The circle is whole and complete.
View from the Freeway
My oh my, what a year! 2008 was a "One" year in Numerology and it was the beginning of a new period for humankind's development. The birthing process can be pretty traumatic and I would say that 2008 was filled with "trauma". What are we birthing? All clues point to a change in the fundamentals of society. 2008 was the shocker, the earthquake around the world. Just about every aspect of society is being affected. We look at the obvious such as the financial drama, the governmental dramas, the economic dramas, the religious dramas and many more. Underneath all of this lies deep change. We are forced to create constructive changes in our lives or suffer the consequences of indifference. It is truly hard to be indifferent in these times.
Since the United States was formed in 1776, we have been the way shower for the world. We influence the trends, the products, the laws and the well being of all countries on the globe. Here we are again moving the world's society forward. As we reinvent ourselves, we get to clean up our excesses and our behaviors, our government and our values. The optimum new trend taking place is the "power of the citizen". At last. Somehow or other, in the last 240 years we forgot a few things, the very important qualities of what we are all about. Thank goodness for transits. The wheels at the grist mill grind slowly but they grind exceedingly small and all grains are eventually ground. Look for the truth rather than the opinion.
What can we expect for the New Year? Well for starters, beginning January 11th, Mercury retrogrades until February 1st. I highly recommend you wait until the first week in February to start some of your projects. The energies this month are a little crazy. If you push to get many things going after the 10th of January, you will find a month later that they will have to be redone or become very costly. Wait to sign, initiate and purchase large objects until February. The problems of the current TARF bailout by the government were created during the last Mercury Retrograde period and they have proven to be inept and a continual source of mismanagement. Avoid these retrograde periods if you mean serious business.
Many people ask me what trends and changes I see for the year. I will be presenting them at a workshop on February 21st, Saturday, in Irvine, California (Orange County). Fortunately, 2009 is an 11 year in numerology. That means we start to have "light" on the subject. It's also a partnership year and a more cooperative year. This will force us to work more together. 11 is also about patience. We are all going to have to become more patient and more in control of ourselves. Remember when Mothers would say "control yourself"? Well this is your opportunity.
You will begin seeing more citizen involvement. This is a huge trend and will begin to unite Democrats, Republicans and Third parties in a common cause. I urge you all to attend local meetings of government. Ask friends to go with you. What budgets are being passed and why? Who is benefiting? Take the time to shed light and air on some pretty smelly conditions. It's your money, pay attention to it.
You can expect big programs from the government as soon as Obama begins office. Some of these will work but there will be inherent problems within the programs. Stay on top of the money trail and the people making the decisions. Right off the bat, 46% of the working population is female. Only 9% of the construction trade is female. The new administration is touting infrastructure projects to get the economy going. What projects are being promoted that will employ this large female population out of work or underemployed? This is just one question to consider. There are many others.
Do not expect a quick recovery? Remember, our world as we know it is being fundamentally changed. The timeframe for this change is 15 years. We have just begun the journey. First we had to break up and expose the old style of doing business. That doesn't apply to just Wall Street but the government as well. It takes time. You can expect more regulation and limits. Some of these will be positive and others will be heavy handed. We, here in the United Stated, are being invited to make this change or face a vastly different standard of living. That can mean very fundamental change in the way we do money including the demise of the Federal Reserve Bank. Everything now is BIG and BOLD. I urge you to think for yourself. Use the internet for some of your information but stop relying on it for any in-depth analysis. Wikipedia can be wrong. Politics is local so question and get active. United squeaky wheels do get oiled so be heard and be counted.
The huge transit that is affecting the world and in particular the United States, is Pluto - Lord of the Underworld - moving into the sign of Capricorn - the ruler of Saturn or Karma. It's long, slow, determined and relentless. The evolutionary lesson is how to "establish individuality and authority within a culture or society. Any society must establish laws, regulations and customs to which each individual within the society must conform so that the society can function as an integrated and stable whole." As I said, it is a big trend. Americans like quick fixes and many of the economists are touting all different dates of recovery. Much of their data comes from computer models, the same models that gave us the investment banking situations. I would suggest you take the dates with a grain of salt.
What can you do in the meantime? STAY OUT OF FEAR. Follow the trends. Not all areas of the economy are in a down spiral. The hard time of this transit is now. The promise of the government's programs will help but the fundamentals will change anyway. The good thing to come out of this, I believe, is the ending of the old Piscean Age of fossil fuel-oil. The power of oil to maintain the world is diminishing and will continue to do so over the next 10 years. This will take a lot of the "heat" out of the Middle East battles. Remember to think long term and you will keep yourself from adding to the collective fear out there. Long term is very good. The United States, if it is willing to make the fundamental changes, and we do like change, will get back on its feet.
Travel outside the US and see the other countries to understand the global picture of the world. We here in America are still a nation of isolationists. Less than 30% of us have passports. Our perspective needs to grow. We average moving every 4 years (that statistic will be changing as people stop moving as much) but we seldom go out of the country to learn.
I hope you can join me on Saturday, February 21st for the workshop on the Trends and Predictions along with some practical tools to help yourselves.
In the meantime, keep trusting yourself. You are learning from past mistakes. Your past is NOT prologue. Let's begin fresh today and clean up leftovers from 2008. In February we will be ready for a new ride in this amusement park.
Until next month,
Keep trusting yourself,
Gail
