MONTHLY MEMO-JANUARY, 2010

Table of Contents:

  1. 2010 TRENDS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Dear Friends,

I normally have the same template for the Monthly Memo but since this is such an important time in our lives, I have chosen to present a different format this month. This is the time of year when people want to know what to expect and what can they do. I do NOT have a crystal ball and there are many wild cards are there that will be played this year. Having said this, however, we can expect certain behavior and trends based on numerous sources both modern and ancient.

I highly recommend that you think "long term" as this will help you a great deal in keeping fear at bay. People like lists and numbers so I will present the information in that format.

  1. You will think of this time as life before 2008 and life after 2008. The deciding year when society changed. It is a similar thinking as life before Pearl Harbor and after, or life before 9/11 and after 9/11. It is a deciding factor when your life changed forever.
  2. THINK-THINK-THINK. Those who get through this year and the years to come will benefit greatly by thinking rather than shrinking in fear. Get pro active for your own good and be willing to give up things you thought you never could.
  3. The first 10 years of this century were just the set up or the prep time for the 21st century. It was the adjustment period away from the 20th century. It was a shake up and rattling of an old way of doing business and conducting our lives. This initiation period has ended. Now we can start really working with the energy of the 21st century. It is a "2" energy and a feminine number. You will see a rise is power of the female all over the globe in all areas of life. It is already doing this. Expect much more. It is the beginning of a cooperative period and away from wars. The male energy in many parts of the world will feel threatened but it is a trend that cannot be stopped. It is not a dominance of one over the other but a balancing of the two energies.
  4. EVERYTHING is in a contraction mode-be it the size of your body, the size of the work force, the size of the cars, the number of banks, the government services, the size of the houses, the real estate market, the number of jobs, the size of the clothes, the size of the restaurant plates, muffins, the amount of fresh drinking water, the glaciers and many others. We no longer will let it be okay to be heavy and we will be doing things to counter this old trend. People will get thinner and start to return to normal weight.
  5. REMEMBER TO THINK LONG TERM-2010 and 2011 are big transition years that are preparing us for better ways of conducting our lives. This big trend that began in 2008 will end in another 14 years so stop looking for quick fixes and the usual way of doing business.
  6. The financial system is hanging on to an old paradigm that has gripped our money system. It will be changed during these next 14 years. Get creative in how you look at your finances. Where do you put your monies? Our banking system has been politicized and this is a correction that is brewing beneath the surface.
  7. Expect more incidences of terror attacks and reports of same. Without scaring yourself, what would you need to do if there was one? Normally I don't mention terror attacks but there is so much going on this year that I would imagine this could happen. One of the things I would suggest would be to keep some cash in a safe place where you can get your hands on it in an emergency-not an ATM machine.
  8. See the next 14 years as a correction period and a time we need to clear up an old way of conducting our lives, our governments and our finances. In order to improve our lives in a more authentic manner, corrections and contractions come along to help us. We normally don't see these coming but they are always in place. This correction happens to have been in place since the birth of this country. It has been sitting quietly for all these years waiting for the right time to come alive. We needed it now and so it is.
  9. The world is shrinking. Our businesses are global. We will be working for more and more international companies here in the United States. The workforce, though, will continue to shrink and there will be less reliance on an employer to "save" you. In Jeremy Rifkin's book "The End of Work", written in 1995, he speaks to this future event of the permanent downsizing of the workforce in America. We have found out that less people can do more work with the help of technology. Robots are replacing workers and will replace even more workers in the years to come. Retirees cannot or will not retire as planned resulting in less openings for younger workers to move up. Employers are hiring part time workers and saving money on employee benefits.
  10. The retirement age will keep getting pushed back until retirement becomes less relevant. Souls don't come here to retire. As retirement becomes weaker, people will plan their longevity differently-meaning they will live longer. As a result, the entire social security system will be changed over this time period. Health care, which is now based on an old paradigm from World War II, will change away from employer based insurance. This new health care "reform" is a start but it is filled with many "false" premises and will have to be rewritten. An obvious, but not yet touched area, is government pension plans. These have been sacred cows and no politician wants to shed light in that direction. During this period, starting in 2010, they will be addressed and there will be much noise over the issue. 85% of government pensions are funded for the workers versus 35-40% for private employees. Since city and state services are being routinely cut, pension programs can no longer be considered untouchables. The unions will holler but concessions will eventually be made. Also, the age of retirement of government workers will also be questioned and examined.
  1. You will rely on yourself and your neighbors and family for help. You will look less to the government for your services and will begin to form local and relevant groups that support the community. Sort of like a big Volunteer Fire Department.
  2. There will be enormous breakthroughs this year in the area of health and science. We are poised for the make of science fiction but it will be happening in real time.
  3. Not this year so much but in 2011, expect more outrage at the activities created by the relationship of the corporate world with the government and its politicians. This could include marches, boycotts, lots of tweeting, emails and protests. 2009 was a rough year on people as it was intended. It shook us all up and got us aroused. The people have not responded in much of an organized manner to change the system. That will begin to change in 2010 and will be much more vocal in 2011.
  4. In order for change to be completed in 2024, we have to do the work during these next 14 years. That includes work at the political level, the financial level, the religious level, the economic level, the personal level, the health care level and the spiritual level.
  5. Americans have paid a price for its focus on the "individual". America uses 2/3's of the world's anti-depression medications. It can be a lonely life away from the family of origin, standing on your own two feet, taking job assignments across the country, having one or more divorces. Although we take pride in our "rights of the individual", we must learn how to combine this quality with the group. We are learning again how to build our "neighbor's barn" and to deliver food to the shut-ins and time for those who are lonely.
  6. 10+ years to return house values and portfolio values to where they were in 2007. If you cannot hang on that long, let the house go so you can move on with your life and free yourself to be creative and expansive. There will most likely be more housing contraction in 2010. The government/bank loan modification program has been misleading and deceptive. Since banks must maintain good balance sheets and appear strong, they are reluctant to lower principal on "under water" mortgages (mortgages that are higher than the house is worth). Until they do-which they are not being forced to do-expect more foreclosures until the market shakes itself out and prices go down some more.
  7. Having bad credit will no longer be the scourge of the past. So many people have had to ruin their credit through this passage, that credit bureaus will be forced to change the templates of how they compute credit scores.
  8. Expect "nerds" and "geeks" to lead the way forward. They will be the inventors and creators that will tweak our technology systems and create new products and services for us all. These will be inexpensive and a whole new genre is being created for us. This is particularly important for the poor who cannot afford most of the technology out there. It is especially true for poor countries.
  9. The Age of the Guru is over. It is the Age of the Practical. It is no longer comfortable to pay for an expensive "quick fix" weekend towards your self-awareness when you cannot pay your mortgage or your health insurance. Actually this Age of the Guru began to fade in 2004 and will continue to do so until 2024. People will need less "pop" "fake" "self-help" techniques when they actually need a job or a safer car to drive. The expansion of the Mega Churches will also come under scrutiny as all things contract. Relevancy and practicality will gain in importance as narcissism and self-absorption diminish. Techniques such as mediation-that costs nothing-will spread as more people, affected by the economy, will turn towards techniques that authentically assist them. A big wake up call occurred last October in Sedona, AZ when 3 people died in a "pseudo" native American sweat lodge during an expensive (almost $10,000) awareness "quest" retreat.
  10. Interest rates should lay low for awhile longer in 2010-at least during the first half of the year. Lock in what you can during this period.
  11. Get very creative in monetizing your services. You may be able to team up with another or offer a product or service that you would never see yourself providing. It's okay. It is a good time to do it.
  12. Expect the United States to share its world power and to have to compromise in the global market place and global governing bodies.
  13. Nothing is too big to fail.
  14. Things get better in 2012-contrary to what you hear-there is no cataclysm for that year. The nutty prophesy stuff sells well and is totally fear based.

To sum up some of the above, clean up your immediate environment, give away, sell or use what you have. Look at the areas of your life that need your attention. Clean them up whether they are your body, your finances, your relationships etc. Remember this is a practical period. The job market is changed forever. Do not retrain for jobs that will not be there in a few years. Get out of looking at everything in a positive way. This may sound crazy but it can prevent you from looking at things in a very neutral manner and then making a decision from that detached, neutral stance. This can help you to make sound decisions rather than hoping and praying. I have always said that "hope" was also in Pandora's box with all of the harmful qualities. Being skeptical at this time is helpful. You always know that the energy of the universe, from which you came, is intelligent and it is neutral. It "shines" on the saints and sinners equally. Right action, clear thinking, getting more information, cease relying on hearsay, rumor and innuendo are the first steps towards decisions that will support you during 2010.

As change happens, remember who you are and know that the core of you, the essence of you, is changeless. No matter what the world does or doesn't do, you are nameless, faceless and changeless. You live forever, are indestructible and are here to grow. You already are a success, are ageless and are part of the Divine. Look forward to growing stronger during this period of world change, to learning a great deal, to singing, laughing, dancing, meditating, eating wisely, having loving supportive relationships and be ready to leave when you time here is complete.

I will write more about 2010 in future monthlies and on my new blog.

I wish you all calmness, peace of mind and time here to experience it.

Always trust yourself,

Until next month,

Gail
